The mission of the Lower Eastern Shore Sustainable Organic Network (LESSON) is to create a safe, just, and sustainable food system for the region (includes the Delmarva Peninsula; Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia).
This currently includes three components:
Our values include healthy food sources, a just financial return for the farmer producers and educating consumers (adults and children) to make healthy, quality food choices by re-connecting them with the sources of their food. We have many dreams, including eventually developing children’s gardens and community gardens and providing opportunities for new and seasoned farmers to transition to sustainable farming practices.

receives a Northeast SARE Sustainable Community Grant LESSON (Lower Eastern Shore Sustainable Organic Network) is working to create a network of farmers using sustainable and organic farming practices to supply a growing regional (Delmarva Peninsula) market with a safe, nutritious and complete diet. Through support from the Town Creek Foundation, four trainings were held in 2007 for this “Network of Farmers” to assist them with their production and marketing. This year, LESSON will continue to offer workshops tailored to the needs of the network participants, as identified in the needs assessments and discussions with farmers. Funds from the Sustainable Community Grant will be used to bring in speakers and experts who can offer technical assistance and mentoring to landed farmers on their farms and to purchase reference books and resource materials for participants. Mater Mania has become our most popular event. It is held at Cedar Hill Park which adjoins the farm in beautiful downtown Bivalve.
