Book Club

Are you interested in learning more about how the food you eat affects your health, the environment, your community and local economy?  Want to debate the merits of eating locally grown versus organically grown food?  Looking for ways that you can reduce your “foodprint”?

The second meeting of our "green" bookclub and potluck group will be on Saturday, March 29th at 6:00 pm at the home of Marjorie Hill.  We are reading "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" by the accomplished novelist Barbara Kingsolver.  After moving back to a family farm in Virginia, Kingsolver and her family describe a year of eating locally.  They don't just buy local produce; they grow much of it themselves!  Learn about their challenges and successes, and visit their website for recipes and resources.  http://www.animalvegetablemiracle.com/

Please contact Patti Erickson (410 677-0788) for directions and feel free to join us even if you haven't finished reading the book.  We'll choose our next few book selections so that folks will know what we will be reading for the upcoming discussions/potlucks.  We plan to meet every two months.

Future book selections may include "The 100-mile Diet:  A Year of Local Eating" by Alisa Smith and JB MacKinnon, "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle:  A Year of Food Life" by Barbara Kingsolver, "Deep Economy:  The Wealth of Communities and the Durable Future"  by Bill McKibben, "Coming Home to Eat: The Pleasures and Politics of Local Foods" by Gary Paul Nabhan and others as recommended by the group.
